SCA Expo Registration Opens for 2024 Event in Chicago<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Specialty Coffee Association<\/a> has opened registration for its flagship United States trade show, the Specialty Coffee Expo<\/a>. The 2024 show will take place April 12-14 in Chicago.<\/p>\n

Bellwether Coffee Expands to Europe through Hagen<\/strong><\/p>\n

California-based electric coffee roasting machine maker Bellwether Coffee<\/a> has expanded its footprint to Europe through a partnership with the UK-based roasting and retail brand Hagen<\/a>. The U.S. company also recently announced its presence in Japan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

RoasTronix\/Stronghold USA and SCAP Bringing Stronghold Machines to Best of Panama<\/strong><\/p>\n

The United States-based representative of electric roaster maker Stronghold (RoasTronix\/Stronghold USA<\/a>) and the Specialty Coffee Association of Panama<\/a> (SCAP) have entered into a strategic partnership that will bring Stronghold machines to the prestigious Best of Panama<\/a> coffee competition and auction. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Original Caribou Coffee Location Closes in Minnesota<\/strong><\/p>\n

The original location of Caribou Coffee<\/a> in Edina, Minnesota, closed its doors for good this week after nearly 31 years in business. Caribou, which has more than 700 locations nationwide, announced it was closing the original shop last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Equator Coffees Opens Shop in Laguna Beach<\/strong><\/p>\n

Northern California-born coffee roaster and retailer Equator Coffees has opened a shiny new beach-view location in Laguna Beach<\/a>. The new shop, Equator’s 12th, is inside the historic South Coast Theater, which is also home to the new flagship dealership location of electric automaker Rivian. Equator opened its first<\/a> and second shop<\/a> in Southern California last year.<\/p>\n

ReAnimator Coffee Worker Union Group Authorizes Strike, Seeks Deal<\/strong><\/p>\n

The union group representing workers at Philadelphia-based ReAnimator Coffee<\/a> authorized a strike should a contract deal not be reached this week, according to Philly Voice<\/a>. The union group, Local 80, also represents unionized workers at Elixr Coffee, Ultimo Coffee Roasters and Vibrant Coffee Roasters.<\/p>\n

Coffee Fingerprinting Company ProfilePrint Announces Series B Round<\/strong><\/p>\n

Singapore-based company ProfilePrint<\/a>, which uses AI as part of its fingerprinting technology for agricultural goods such as coffee, announced it has closed a Series B funding round<\/a>. The amount was not disclosed. Numerous large green coffee companies invested in ProfilePrint in 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ICO Releases November Coffee Market Report<\/strong><\/p>\n

The International Coffee Organization<\/a> released its latest monthly report<\/a> on the global coffee market. The ICO Composite Indicator Price (I-CIP) averaged $1.6153 in November, a 6.3% increase from October 2023.<\/p>\n

Fairtrade and UNIDO Sign Declaration Supporting Sustainable Supply Chains<\/strong><\/p>\n

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization<\/a> (UNIDO) and Fairtrade International<\/a> signed a new joint declaration at the recent 28th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC<\/a> (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) in Dubai. The document emphasizes a shared commitment to promoting sustainable supply chains.<\/p>\n

Taco Bell Piloting Frozen Blended Coffee Drinks<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fast food giant Taco Bell has rolled out its first ever frozen blended coffee drinks, Coffee Chillers<\/a>. Along with a companion drink called Churro Chillers, the coffee drinks are being piloted at two Southern California stores.<\/p>\n

Tipa and ATI Launch Compostable Lids for Coffee Capsules<\/strong><\/p>\n

Israel-based packaging developer and manufacturer Tipa<\/a> launched what it described as a “first of its kind fully compostable coffee capsule lid.” Developed and patented by a separate company, Advanced Technology Innovations (ATI)<\/a>, the lids are compatible with Nespresso-style capsules. Incidentally, a recent independent study explored which capsule types are worst for the environment<\/a>.<\/p>\n
