With direct ties to Colombian specialty coffee and a proactive economic approach to environmental stewardship, Oregon-based Futura Coffee Roasters<\/a> has expanded to the east coast.<\/p>\n

The growing Futura leadership team last week celebrated the grand opening of Futura in the Mill District retail development in Amherst, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

As with Futura’s original shop, which opened in Portland, Oregon, in 2022<\/a>, 3% of all sales from the coffee bar will go towards a regenerative soil fund supporting sustainable agricultural activities in the coffee lands of Colombia.<\/p>\n

Within the plant-filled shop, where light wood tables and clean white surfaces maintain brightness in a post-industrial setting, the Futura crew offers a similar menu to what’s currently available at the two Portland locations. House-made breakfast sandwiches, fresh bagels and pastries are offered alongside a clean and classic coffee drinks menu.<\/p>\n

In Amherst, a white Mahlk\u00f6nig EK43 grinds beans for batch brew and pourovers with Origami drippers, while a white Dalla Corte DC Two grinder supports a Dalla Corte XT espresso machine.<\/p>\n

Coffees continue to be roasted in Portland, Oregon, following sourcing efforts led by Futura’s diverse leadership group, which comprises actors throughout the high-end specialty coffee supply chain.<\/p>\n

Partners in the venture include CJ Speelman of Portland roasting company Tanager Coffee<\/a>, Sebastian Villamizar of Colombian green coffee company Equation Coffee<\/a> and Felipe Sardi of Colombian producer group and resort La Palma y El Tucan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Renowned coffee roaster Vic Scutari of Delaware-based Brandywine Coffee Roasters<\/a> is helping to lead Futura’s Amherst operation, according to the Oregon company.<\/p>\n

Kate Van Petten, who recently joined Futura as marketing director, told DCN that additional Futura locations may be in the works, including a third Portland-area cafe.<\/p>\n

Said Van Petten, \u201cThe east coast expansion of Futura Coffee Roasters signifies the start of a broader mission expansion for specialty coffee.\u201d<\/p>\n
